Wentworth Sylvester x Marden
Superlight
Wethersfield Cadence is a true jewel who came
to us in May of 2005. She is an important addition to our gene pool
as her pedigree comprises the greats of the past century all within 2 to 3
generations. Names such as Walton Searchlight, Hurstwood Superlative
and Marden Goshawk are in the 2nd generation of her pedigree with
Solitude, Erlegh Maiden and Kentmere Searchlight in the 3rd. She
is the last known living granddaughter of the legendary harness horse and
broodmare, Hurstwood Superlative. Hurstwood Superlative was the dam
of Hurstwood Consul, who like his grandsire Solitude, became a valuable
sire in this breed. Some well known harness horses of this line
include: HolyPark What's Wanted Marden Midas Ingfield Black
Prince Dutch Hanky Panky Makari Extraordinaire Forewood
Commander Brookborough Flash Jack Brookfield Sheeza Lady Hope
Valley There are many others who excelled in other driven disciplines,
such as Hurstwood Admiral, who was an alternate for the United States
Equestrian Team in the 2000 World Single's Championship. Another
grandson, Forewood Niatross, has proven himself to be a valuable sire in
North America. Cadence will be very carefully bred to produce purebred
foals who will carry on her exquisite conformation and temperament as well
as those precious genes with a coefficient of inbreeding low enough to
ensure genetic diversity. A tall order but we feel we are up to the
task! As a result of her incredible pedigree, she carries a significant
portion of the blood of Ophelia, the most important broodmare in the
history of this breed, and her son Mathias, whom all of the great harness
horses trace back to; as well as the legendary Buckley Courage, Mersey
Searchlight, Nork Spotlight, Walton Searchlight and Solitude. She
is, without question, the best bred Hackney mare alive in North America
today.

Watch for her 2007 foal! Cadence will
be bred shortly to Hallmandale Amber's Pride, another "old blood" Hackney
stallion, standing at Shallowmyre in Ridgefield, Washington. His
photos may be found here and his extended pedigree here.
He has produced some beautiful foals to date
and we are very excited about the prospects of crossing these bloodlines
as it will produce a high number of crosses to the best Hackney horses in
the history of this breed. The resulting foal will have an 8
Generation Coefficient of Inbreeding of 3.10% which is well within
our goal of maintaining/improving genetic diversity in this
breed.
